Updated India World Cup 2023 Squad Announced: The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar from the Board of Cricket Council of India, has shared the revised India World Cup Squad. Ravi Ashwin is joining the team, replacing the injured Axar Patel in India’s final squad for CWC 2023.

On September 28, it came to light that experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin would join the ODI World Cup team, replacing all-rounder Axar Patel. Axar couldn’t recover in time from a quadriceps tear injury. Fans on social media were thrilled with this decision, noting that Ashwin was part of the team that won India’s second 50-over World Cup in 2011.
India will start their World Cup journey on October 8, facing Australia in Chennai. Ashwin’s familiarity with the Chennai venue, from playing repeatedly for both India and the IPL team Chennai Super Kings, might be a valuable asset for Captain Rohit Sharma. Chennai pitches are known for being slow and favoring spinners.
Ravichandran Ashwin showcased excellent performance in the recent ODI series against Australia. The 37-year-old can bring much-needed variety to India’s bowling lineup, currently lacking an off-spinner. Axar, however, has been a better hitter at position eight, as evident from his latest performances.
Even with Axar’s absence, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah have all recovered from severe injuries, providing India with a nearly full-strength lineup.
In recent matches, all three players have played significant roles. Rahul marked his comeback with a remarkable century against Pakistan in the Super Four Asia Cup match. Similarly, Iyer scored a century in the second one-day international against Australia.
“Axar Patel has failed to recover in time for the World Cup after sustaining a left quadriceps strain during India’s Asia Cup Super Four encounter against Bangladesh. The spin-bowling all-rounder missed the final of the Asia Cup as a result,” the ICC said in an official release.
