ICC World Cup 2023 5 Unlucky Players to Miss Out India Squad

Here are 5 Indian players who could consider themselves unlucky to have not selected for the India World Cup 2023 Squad:

Tilak Varma

IPL star Tilak Varma gained attention in the recent T20I series against West Indies, scoring 173 runs in five matches. Given his T20 success, many expected him to receive a surprise entry to the 2023 World Cup. However, the Indian team decided not to make any last-minute changes and stuck with the well-known players for the main event.

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has made the most of every chance in ODIs, gathering 390 runs, with three fifties, at an average of 55.71 and a notable strike rate of 104. The wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala also hit a vibrant half-century in one of the two matches he played in the West Indies ODIs.

However, the management chose KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as the two wicketkeeper-batsmen, based on their performance in that role in the Indian batting order.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, seen as one of the best spinners in Indian cricket, used to be a big challenge for any team at his best. Since India has two left-arm off-spinners and a left-arm leg spinner, people thought they might select the experienced player as the only right-arm off-spinner to add variety to their bowling. However, it looks like India has moved on from him, as he isn’t part of the main event.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal, another cricketer, just missed out on a spot for the 2023 World Cup, even though he played a key role in helping India reach the semifinal in the previous tournament. In 72 matches, this right-arm wrist spinner has taken 121 wickets with an economy rate of 5.27.

Despite his great talent, Chahal’s recent form lessened his chances of being in the final fifteen, with India choosing Kuldeep Yadav, his regular partner, for the main spinner’s role.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, one of the best ODI batsmen of this generation, could be called India’s star in ICC events, having led the team to many remarkable victories in the World Cup and Champions Trophy. In 164 ODI innings, the skilled left-hander has scored 6793 runs with an impressive average of 44.11 and a fast strike rate of 91.35.

However, the rise of Shubman Gill coincided with Dhawan’s decline, with India choosing Gill as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner. Thus, Dhawan’s absence from the World Cup squad was anticipated, even though he was a key member of the Indian ODI team in his heyday.
