In contrast to a mega-auction, each squad can retain most of their players before the IPL 2024 Auction. The difference between a mega-auction and a mini-auction is that before a mega-auction, teams are only allowed to retain three to five players, whereas before a mini-auction, franchises can retain any number of players.
For the IPL 2024 Auction, there are no restrictions on the number of players who can be released or retained. Additionally, teams will have an extra INR 5 crore to spend in the auction, in addition to the purse remaining from the previous auction and the value of the players they release.
As per a report, IPL teams need to submit the retained and released players list by November 26th. As of the previous season, BCCI allowed franchises to use the “TRADE” option where teams can exchange players between them. Each franchise must spend a minimum of three quarters of their total purse, which is set at INR 100 crores – five more than last year.
This year, there will be no Right to Match card available to teams. The card has previously allowed franchisees an opportunity to buy back a player they were unable to retain ahead of the auctions by matching the price of the highest bidder in the auction.
