India World Cup Schedule 2023 – The 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is the 13th edition of the prestigious tournament. The BCCI will be hosting the event and they will commence their campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. The tournament officially kicks off on October 5 with a match between New Zealand and England in Ahmedabad. The World Cup will be played across 10 stadiums throughout the country, with Mumbai and Kolkata hosting the semi-finals. The final of the World Cup will take place in Ahmedabad on November 19. Here is the India World Cup 2023 Schedule.
The round-robin format will be implemented in the ICC World Cup 2023, where all the top teams will face each other once during the league stage. The top four teams will then advance to the knockout stage, with the top two teams ultimately competing in the final. This format mirrors the one used in the 2019 World Cup.
India World Cup 2023 Matches Details
The Men in Blue, India’s national cricket team, last secured an ICC title in 2013 when they emerged victorious in the ICC Champions Trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. However, it has been a decade since India last won an ICC title, leaving fans eagerly awaiting their next triumph.
In the past decade, the Men in Blue have faced repeated defeats in the semifinals and finals of ICC events, drawing significant criticism for their inability to clinch the title. They have suffered defeat in as many as nine ICC finals, including the recent ICC T20 World Cup semifinal against England.
Rohit Sharma has been entrusted with the captaincy for this ICC event, and he, along with Virat Kohli, holds the key to India’s batting lineup. However, the team has concerns over the return of Jasprit Bumrah, their premier fast bowler, who has been recovering from a back injury sustained during the T20 World Cup last year. Bumrah also missed the recent WTC final against Australia.
Additionally, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant are currently recuperating from their respective injuries, further weakening the team’s middle-order batting lineup. This poses a significant challenge for the team in their pursuit of the World Cup title.
The selection committee decided to retain KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. In terms of the One Day Internationals (ODIs), Sanju Samson was recalled to the team, joining Ishan Kishan as another viable option.
The host team is scheduled to participate in nine league games during the ICC World Cup 2023. Following their match against Australia on October 8, their next significant encounter will be against Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad. The complete schedule of their campaign is provided below.
