Virat Kohli got out without scoring after facing nine balls in the first test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
In the first test of the three-match series, Virat Kohli’s struggles in test cricket continued. Playing at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17, he was dismissed for zero after facing nine balls.
Day 1 of the match had to be stopped because of heavy rain, so the game finally began on Day 2, Thursday. Indian captain Rohit Sharma chose to bat first, even though the conditions were better for bowling.
Unfortunately, this decision didn’t go well for India. The New Zealand bowlers quickly put the Indian team under pressure. Tim Southee dismissed Rohit Sharma for just two runs. Then, Kohli came in at number three but couldn’t add to the score as he was sent back for a duck by William O’Rourke after just nine balls.
To add to India’s troubles, Matt Henry took the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan, who got out after facing only three balls without scoring.
India had a tough time in the first Test against New Zealand, losing four of their top seven batters for ducks for the first time in a home Test match. By the time they reached 34/6, it was clear India had a rough session. The match conditions seemed perfect for New Zealand’s bowlers, making it look like losing the toss was actually lucky for them.
Now, India’s hopes of reaching a decent first innings score rest on how Rishabh Pant performs with the lower order. Brief scores: India 34/6 (Rishabh Pant 15*; William O’Rourke 3-13, Matt Henry 2-12) vs New Zealand.
When Was The Last Time Virat Kohli Got Out For a Duck In Test Cricket?
The crowd in Bengaluru fell completely silent when Virat Kohli was dismissed for a nine-ball duck in the ongoing first test match against New Zealand. It has been almost three years since Kohli was last dismissed for a duck in test cricket.
The last time it happened was in 2021 when New Zealand toured India. During the second test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli was out for a four-ball duck, dismissed by left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel in the first innings.
This year, the 35-year-old Virat Kohli has been struggling to score in test matches. He has made 157 runs in four tests with an average of 26.16. So far, he hasn’t scored a half-century in test cricket this year.
