ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Groups: The ICC World Cup 2023 will be played in the round-robin and knockout format, the same as the 2019 edition in England. There will be a round-robin format for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, which is a throwback to the format of 2019 as well as the 1992 editions, in which all ten teams will compete against one another in an elimination round.

In the round-robin stage, all 10 teams will play each other once. This means that each team will play 9 matches in the first round. The top 4 teams at the end of the round-robin stage will qualify for the knockout stage.

Cricket World Cup 2023 Groups

India, the two-time champions, secured automatic qualification as hosts, while seven other teams, including Australia, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, earned their spots based on their standings in the ODI Super Leagues.

The remaining two spots were determined through the World Cup Qualifiers, where Sri Lanka and the Netherlands emerged as the top two contenders.

In contrast to the previous ICC Cricket World Cup edition, this time teams will not be grouped together. The league stage will follow a single round-robin format, where each of the ten teams will face each other once. The top four teams from this stage will advance to the semi-finals, resulting in a total of 45 matches during the first round from October 05 to November 12.

The defending champions, England, will kick off the World Cup with a blockbuster clash against the 2019 runners-up, New Zealand, in Ahmedabad on October 05. England’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman, Jos Buttler, will lead the team, while the Kiwis are likely to be captained by Tom Latham, as regular skipper Kane Williamson is expected to miss the early part of the tournament due to injury.

Hosts India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, will launch their campaign against Australia, led by Pat Cummins, at Chepauk on October 08.

Pakistan, currently the second-ranked team in the world, will commence their World Cup journey against the Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 06. Babar Azam will captain the team.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will be led by Shakib Al Hasan, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Dasun Shanaka, respectively, while the Proteas will be captained by Temba Bavuma in this highly anticipated World Cup.
